Surgical Procedure by Dr. Tolga Aksan
Anesthesia:
- Abdominoplasty is generally performed under general anesthesia.
Incision:
- A horizontal incision is made just above the pubic area, extending from hip to hip. The length and shape of the incision are determined by the amount of excess skin.
- In full abdominoplasty, an additional incision is made around the navel.
Repairing the Abdominal Muscles:
- The abdominal muscles are pulled together and stitched into place, creating a firmer abdominal wall and a narrower waistline.
Removing Excess Skin and Fat:
- Excess skin and fat are removed from the lower abdominal region. Liposuction may be used to contour the abdomen and flanks.
Repositioning the Navel:
- The navel is repositioned to a natural location if it was displaced due to the removal of skin.
Closing the Incisions:
- The incisions are closed with sutures, and surgical drains may be placed to remove excess fluid.
